One of the copy writing services that we offer at U4D includes press releases. While you might think that press releases have gone by the way side, they are actually a very useful tool when it comes to promoting your business.

Because many press releases are now submitted online, they do not have to follow the older, more traditional format. However, they do need to include five major things.

  1. A Keyword Rich Title
  2. A Summary of the Press Release
  3. The Body or Main Information of the Press Release
  4. Information about Your Company
  5. A Press Contact

All press releases have these five main components. First, when we write press releases for your company, we will create a title that has searchable keywords in it. For example, a hotel hires a new manager. A bad example of a title would be “The Marriott Welcomes John Doe to the Staff.” This title is bad for a number of reasons. It does not tell the reader which Marriott this press release refers to, and it does not include John Doe’s new position.

A better example of a title for a SEO press release would be “The Denver Marriott Welcomes a New General Manager, John Doe, to the Staff.” While this title is a bit long, it does include more information, and it is much more searchable because it includes more keywords.

The summary is one or two sentences that tells the reader what the press release is about. They could read the summary and get the gist of the press release. The body, on the other hand, includes all the details and further information. Both of these sections should include a good amount of keywords, such as product names, people’s names and positions, and locations.

The last two parts are also very important. The information about your company will generally include the company’s name and location, and it often includes a sentence or two about the company and what it does. This is another great place to add in some keywords that relate to your business.

The press contact is generally the marketing or public relations representative for the company. Sometimes companies will choose to employ independent public relations firms, and someone from that company might be the press contact. This information includes the contact’s name and title as well as his or her email and phone number.
