What is a Meta Tag?

For example, it might include a description of what is included on the page, or it might include information about who made the page.

At U4D, the type of meta tag that we are most concerned about is the meta tag used to describe the webpage. These meta tags are often referred to as “abstract” or “description” meta tags. At U4D, we use these meta tags to describe the content on the webpage. For example, for the meta tag on a homepage, we would include information about your company.
When we create these descriptions, we are going something called meta tags optimisation where we use relevant keywords throughout the description. These keywords and this description help some search engines find your site.
While Google does not use meta tags for its search rankings, many other search engines do. Also, Google might use the meta tag description as your site description, so it is important to make sure that it is well written. Web directories will also use meta tag descriptions in certain instances.
